The Jutras lab uses molecular and cellular tools to study pathogenic Spirochetes—an ancient  and unusual bacterial phylum responsible for considerable human and animal morbidity  worldwide. Two of our objectives that align closest with the Virginia Tech Center for Drug  Discovery involve 1) discovering new therapeutic strategies to treat patients with Lyme disease  and Syphilis and 2) developing direct and rapid diagnostic tests for Lyme disease.
